Purpose
Town of
Caledon being part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has and continues to
expect development growth pressure into the foreseeable future. In 2005, the
Province of Ontario passed into law the Places to Grow Act which creates a
framework for long term growth planning and infrastructure renewal for Ontario.
Within the growth plan it anticipates the population of the GTA to grow by
several million people over the next 20 years. This majority of the growth will
be within the existing urban centres but will also continue to place
development pressure on Caledon’s communities, including Alton.
The
Caledon Official Plan requires a Village Study to be undertaken for each of
Caledon’s villages. These studies develop a vision and policies to guide change
and development in these communities over the next 15-20 years. The Alton
Village Study provides an opportunity for the residents, businesses and
landowners to establish for their village the role and function of the
community as well as the creation of general and specific policies that ensure
the future health of its residents, economy and environment.
The
Alton Village Study will be completed by three partners. The study partners are
the Town of Caledon, Credit Valley Conservation and the Region of Peel. The
Alton Village Study consists of three components to be completed by the study
partners. The planning component is to be completed by the Town of Caledon; the
environmental component is to be completed by Credit Valley Conservation and
the servicing component is to be completed by the Region of Peel.
