General Information &
Parking Rules
Every municipality has
by-laws that govern where vehicles may or may not be parked. These rules vary
among municipalities, and most will post general parking rules on signs at the

also enforces the provisions of the Region of Peel Traffic By-law that deal
with stopping and parking regulations and prohibitions.

Parking
Exemptions
While the Town of Caledon’s Parking By-law prohibits on-street overnight
parking (between 2:00 am to 6:00 am), it is recognized that occasions do arise
in which a resident needs to leave their vehicle parked on the road (i.e. home
renovations, driveway repairs, etc.). In order to accommodate these situations,
the Town has established a parking exemption program to allow residents to
leave their vehicle parked overnight on the street. The Town also grants
parking exemptions for overnight guest/visitors of residents.
New rules effective
October 1, 2008
-All overnight exemption
requests must be received before Midnight (12:00 a.m.)
-You must leave all of the required information below or the exemption will not
be granted
-There is a limit of 10 exemptions per year/per vehicle licence plate
If you require a
parking exemption, please call (905) 584-2272 x.4131 before 12:00 a.m. with the
following details:
1. Your name
2. Street Address where the vehicle
will be parked
3. Your contact phone number
4. The date the vehicle will be parked
on the street
5. The vehicle make, model and licence
plate number
6. Reason for exemption
Vehicles
parked on the street overnight must comply with all of the applicable requirements
of the Town’s Parking By-law (i.e. no on-street parking during snow storms, no
parking in prohibited areas, parked facing proper direction, not parked too
close to intersections, not parked in front of fire hydrants, etc.). Should
your vehicle (or that of a guest) be ticketed even though you requested the
parking exemption, the ticket will be reviewed and may be cancelled.
School Zones
Respect
posted speed limits, traffic signs and parking restrictions in school areas.
Fines may be up to $5,000!
The streets
which surround a school are a hub of activity. In addition to the daily
community traffic, school buses arrive twice each day – in the morning to drop
children off and again to pick them up in the afternoon. Many children also
walk to school or ride their bikes, and in some cases they do not pay attention
to the vehicular dangers that surround them.
For these
reasons, the streets surrounding our schools in the Town of Caledon are
designated as “No Stopping” zones. This
allows a clear, unobstructed view for motorists who need to be alert to all
pedestrian traffic in this area.
Parents and
guardians who choose to bring their children to school by car are not exempt
from these rules, even in adverse weather conditions. Parking or stopping for
even a minute in a “No Stopping” zone endangers the lives of other children –
this is a serious offence and will be strictly enforced by the Town’s parking
control officers.
The Town of
Caledon wants to ensure the children of our community can safely get to and
from school. Achieving our children’s safety through compliance is our mission.
Please don’t let compliance through enforcement be our only alternative.

If you must drive your child to school, consider the following:
Pre-arrange where you will drop off and pickup your
child. Consider a nearby parking lot or area away from the school that is not
within the restricted parking zone
Some school properties feature “kiss and ride” areas –
please use if provided
Be courteous to other children and their
parents/guardians. Aggressive, hurried driving does not belong here
Carpool with other parents to reduce traffic flow – save
time and fuel too
Purchase weather-appropriate clothing and encourage your
children to walk to school, even in inclement weather
Be patient and drive with caution at all times. Children
are not good judges of a vehicle’s speed. Young pedestrians or cyclists can
be unpredictable, merging off the sidewalk onto the road at any time
