Caledon
Animal Services is responsible for the enforcement of
the Town’s animal related by-laws, including licencing
and other provincial regulations. They also provide care and shelter for lost or stray animals
at the Town’s Animal Shelter, and operate a 10 acre leash free
park at 12889 Coleraine Drive in Bolton (just south of Healey Road on the east
side).

Animal Control
The Animal
Control services group is responsible for responding to complaints concerning
stray dogs, injured animals/wildlife, animals causing a safety risk including
loose or stray livestock and dog bites. Please also report any dog bite
complaints when the skin is broken to the Region of Peel Health Unit at (905)
791-7800 x.2800.
Complaints

For after
hour emergency situations involving only injured/sick animals, animals causing
a safety risk, please call 1-800-563-7881. Please note that stray animals are
not considered to be an emergency situation.
Any
suspected cases of animal cruelty, or neglect complaints, must be reported to
the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) AT
1-888-ONT-SPCA (1-888-668-7722).
For
inquiries regarding West Nile Virus or to
report a dead Crow or Blue Jay sighting you can contact the Region of Peel at
905-799-7700. Caledon residents can call toll-free at 905-584-2216. It is not
necessary to report other types of dead birds.
Livestock Claims
The
Livestock, Poultry and Honey Bee Protection Act entitles livestock and poultry
producers to make claims to the municipality for livestock losses attributed to
attacks by wolves, coyotes and stray dogs. The act is administered by the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and the Town of
Caledon. When the owner of livestock or poultry has suffered a loss of
livestock/poultry due to predation by a wolf, coyote or a stray dog, the owner
should immediately notify the Town of Caledon, Animal Control Section. An
Animal Control Officer will investigate the claim and compensate the farmer for
losses in accordance with the act. If the producer does not agree with the
municipal valuers report, an appeal may be made to OMAFRA. To report a
livestock claim, call 905-857-5208 or toll free at 1-866-818-5493. If you are
calling after regular business hours, claims should be reported to 1-800-563-7881.

Adoptions
Along with
providing care and shelter for lost or stray animals, the shelter also runs an
adoption program for all cats and dogs for which the owners cannot be found. For
a list of animals available for adoption as well as for information on adopting

are interested in adopting one of the animals listed on this site, you may
complete and submit an adoption

The Caledon Animal Shelter is a Pedigree Adoption DriveTM
Campaign Partner Shelter. This is a year-long program to raise funds and
awareness about shelter dogs across the country and to help find loving homes
for so many wonderful animals in need. For more information about the Pedigree

Grooming
The shelter offers use of “do-it-yourself” grooming facilities – the shelter
provides the shampoo, cream rinse, grooming supplies (i.e. brushes, combs,
clippers, towels and dryers). All you need to bring is your pet! The fees using
these facilities are as follows:

Boarding
The shelter offers
boarding facilities for dogs. (If your pet has an allergy or sensitive palate,
you are required to provide their own food.) You may also bring along their
favorite toy or blanket. We recommend that you book your pet’s accommodations
early for holidays (i.e. Christmas, March Break, holiday weekends etc.). The

Dog Licensing
The Town of
Caledon requires that every owner of a dog shall licence their dog,
and limits the maximum number of dogs in a house to three. Dog tags are
available for pick up at either the Animal Shelter located at 12889 Coleraine
Drive in Bolton or at Town Hall located at 6311 Old Church Road in Caledon
East. Dog tags can also be renewed over the phone by VISA or MasterCard.

Leash Fee Regulations - (Pursuant to Town of Caledon By-law 2006-128)
- Use at own risk
- Dogs must be with an adult at least 18 years of age and able to control the
dogs
- No more than 3 dogs per adult
- Adults with dogs must carry a leash for each dog
- All dogs must be neutered/spayed, vaccinated and in good health
- All dogs must be a minimum of 6 months old
- All dogs must be licensed with the Town of Caledon and wear a collar and tag
- Dogs must NOT be aggressive
- Park users must comply with Town of Caledon By-Laws including stoop &
scoop
- Children must be closely supervised
Note: Dogs identified to be
“pitbulls” under the Dog Owner’s
Liability Act must be muzzled and leashed at all times.
* Please remember to keep a close eye on your dog at all times in our Leash
Free Park. The park is fully fenced, however uneven ground along the fence line
has created gaps between the ground and the bottom of the fence. Because the
park is located on a storm water retention site, these gaps cannot be filled.
It may, therefore, be possible for some dogs to escape under the fence. If you
intend to use the park, dog owners are asked to help ensure their pet remains
within the park enclosure.
