Demographics and Growth Forecasts

The current population of Caledon is based on projections made by the Town of Caledon since the 2011 Census. Please refer to Table 1 below.

Demographics

The first release from the 2011 Census occurred on February 8, 2012.  The 2011 census population for The Town of Caledon was 59,460, an increase of 4.2% over the 2006 population of 57,050.  The total number of private dwellings is 19,649, whereas the private dwellings occupied by usual residents is 19,086.

Growth

Several pieces of legislation play a significant role in the development of the Town's growth policies in its Official Plan:

Forecasts

The approved population and employment forecasts for the Town of Caledon for 2021 and 2031 are contained in Table 4.1 in Chapter 4 Population and Employment in the Caledon Official Plan.  Population allocations for the communities in Caledon and the rural area are shown in Tables 4.2 to 4.6.  The Official Plan does not allocate the Town-wide employment forecast among the specific communities in Caledon.

The Official Plan forecasts were first adopted by Council in 2010 as part of Official Plan Amendment 226.  OPA 226 is the Town's provincial policy conformity amendment.  The adopted forecasts were modified in 2012 to conform to the forecasts in Region of Peel Official Plan Amendment 24.  ROPA 24 was the Region's provincial policy conformity amendment.  Caledon's OPA 226 was approved by the Ontario Municipal Board on October 15, 2013. The approved forecasts for 2031 are: 108,000 population and 46,000 jobs.
