Columbia Way Stormwater Management Facility

Posted on Wednesday May 31, 2017

The Town of Caledon has initiated an environmental assessment of the Columbia Way Stormwater Management Facility.

The study will investigate alternatives for retrofitting the facility to provide an enhanced level of water quality protection.

Located on a tributary of the Humber River, the facility controls runoff from adjacent residential developments and agricultural lands north of Columbia Way.

It consists of a dry pond with no permanent pool that retains water only during storm events and provides little to no water quality benefit.

Both the Town and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority have noted that the facility has exceeded its sediment retention capacity and has significant potential for improvement.

The Study is a Schedule ‘B’ project under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and will include public consultation (details to follow).
