Victoria Day Closures

Posted on Monday May 15, 2017

Town of Caledon administrative offices, court services, parks and recreation facilities, libraries, animal shelter and all other non-emergency services will be closed on Monday, May 22, 2017 for Victoria Day and will reopen on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

Town of Caledon Fire & Emergency Services would like to remind retailers and homeowners about their responsibilities for selling, purchasing and setting off fireworks so that the celebration can be enjoyed by everyone.

Selling

Retailers can only sell fireworks 10 days prior to Victoria Day (May 12, 2017) with a permit that is obtainable from the Fire & Emergency Services department.  Fire Prevention staff will be conducting spot inspections to verify compliance with the by-law and compliance with any other federal and provincial regulations.

Discharging

The Town strictly prohibits fireworks on public property, parkland and parks, including roadways and sidewalks.  Fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day (May 22, 2017) and are restricted to private property.  Discharging fireworks on any other day is in contravention of the by-law and is subject to a fine.

As a part of summer public safety measures, the OPP will also have foot and bike patrols monitoring all types of violations. For immediate, after hours complaints, please contact OPP dispatch at 1.888.310.1122.
